A SENSE OF BEE-ING

A SENSE OF BEE-ING is a multi-sensorial experience centered around the five senses: taste, sight, touch, smell and sound. Bees are the most industrious creatures on the planet and we have learned a lot from their organisational and extraoridinary sensory abilities. Bees have an incredible sense of taste and their visual ability not only aids their impressive sense of direction, but enables them to recognize that which they’ve seen before - even human faces.

By collaborating with companies and institutions that use new technologies and innovative inventions, we hope to transport human beings into the world and body of a bee as a reminder that we live ‘in concert’ and thus our relationship must be symbiotic.

What does it feel like to be a bee? To fly like a bee? To smell like a bee? To move like a bee? To follow the intricate way they work together in harmony? If it’s true that human life depends on bee pollination, what better way to understand their importance than to “become” a bee, at least for a few hours.

Beginning in 2018, over the course of the project, ATELIER MELD envisions building a mobile hive constructed from sustainable materials to house the different chapters/experiences which will constitute the final hive. The “hive pavilion” is an essential element and an example of autonomy and self-sustainability. The project will be able to travel anywhere in the world, within its own sensorial space and will allow for flexibility as well as “branding” opportunities.

To celebrate the creativity, innovation and the vitality of nature, A SENSE OF BEE-ING will unite artists, sound designers, VR developers, inventors, beekeepers, entomologists, and filmmakers to collaborate and recreate what it is to BE a BEE.
